A woman who worked in my building died of Covid-19 this week. She was 52 and, as far as I knew, was healthy. It was a total shock to learn of this.

Hamilton County, Nebraska operated a nursing home facility in Aurora. This is common throughout Nebraska. The name of the facility was Hamilton Manor.
Nelda Ackerson was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County. She was grateful for the services she and her sister received at Hamilton Manor so she left it $875,000 in her will. She died in June 2017.
Hamilton Manor experienced financial difficulties and the County ended up lending it $925,500. A for-profit operator was brought in to manage the nursing home. Eventually, the for-profit company built a new nursing home and the County closed the old building in April 2018.

Disinheriting a Child
I always tell people that they have no right to an inheritance from a parent. I also tell people that debt comes before equity. All creditors must be paid by an estate before people listed in a will or trust get a dime.
That being said, you can disinherit a child but if you do so it has to be done correctly. The best way is to mention the child by name and then state that the child is to receive nothing or a token amount. It is not a good idea to list why this decision was made. In some cases, the child has received money from the parent during the parent's life.
